12/23/16 – Fox Chapel School Telethon Dedicated to LiveLikeLou

Fox Chapel Area School District Friends!

Want to help ALS patients in our region, their children and support research?  Donate to the Live Like Lou general fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation here.

Throughout the 2016 Fall term students from across Fox Chapel Area School District, led by High School Marketing Teacher Jill Tabis and students from the marketing classes, will lead a number of fundraising activities in support of LiveLikeLou.  Kicked off with a speech by Suzanne Alexander to the students in October, the elementary schools, middle school and high schools will receive assemblies, learn about ALS, Lou Gehrig and Neil Alexander – the O’Hara resident who sadly died from ALS in 2015.  The money raised will fund 1) patient care in Western Pennsylvania 2) the children of patients in the region to continue normal childhood activities, to receive meals and gifts for the holidays, and to provide college scholarships, and 3) for the “LiveLikeLou Center for ALS Research” at the University of Pittsburgh’s Brain Institute.  The capstone event will be the televised 2-hour long telethon, where students will lead a final push to raise funds on December 23rd led by Multimedia Teacher Ryan Devlin.

We are proud that all money raised in Western Pennsylvania is being spent in Western Pennsylvania through these organizations and grateful to Fox Chapel Area kids for their support.  Throughout Neil’s progression with ALS, he would speak to kids from little leaguers to the high school students as they would read “Tuesdays with Morrie” or studied effective marketing strategies.  Above is a picture of Neil with last year’s marketing class.   Many thanks to these young bright fearless students – THANK YOU for helping us to leave ALS better than we found it!
