Live Like Lou, along with Phi Delta Theta and the Permobil Foundation, hosted a special on-field presentation ahead of the Royals' Lou Gehrig Day celebration to surprise a local ALS hero with a power wheelchair. Past recipients of the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, George Brett and Salvador Perez from the Kansas City Royals, also joined all three groups for the on-field presentation.
Bill Fitzpatrick is a proud Kansas City native and avid Royals fan. An entrepreneur at heart, Bill has owned and operated two businesses during his professional career. He loves watching NASCAR races and has found great fulfillment for over two decades through volunteer service at his church. Alongside his wife Marcy, Bill’s greatest joy lies in being a devoted family man, relishing every moment with his beloved grandchildren and crafting cherished memories together. Joining the Fitzpatrick family on the field are representatives from Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, the Live Like Lou Foundation, and the Permobil Foundation, as well as past recipients of the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, George Brett and Salvador Perez from your Kansas City Royals!
Jeff Lyster, a friend of Live Like Lou, ended his nine-week adventure at Kauffman Stadium. He ran 444 miles across Kansas (yes, you read that right!) to raise awareness and money for a few organizations, including Live Like Lou! Jeff recognized there's more to life than just himself and wanted to impact others in a memorable way.
But why? A few years ago, Jeff attended a Phi Delta Theta Fraternity alumni social gathering and met Greyson Geiler, Live Like Lou's board treasurer and someone Jeff now considers a great friend. As the usual networking conversation evolved, it eventually led to the crazy idea of running across the state of Kansas. A quick Google search revealed the total mileage was 444 miles, and Greyson remarked, "You remember that Lou Gehrig's jersey number was four? We have to figure out how to make this run happen." Unaware at the time that Greyson was a trustee with the Live Like Lou Foundation, Jeff has since been able to make this crazy dream of his move forward with Greyson's support. Way to go, Jeff!
Live Like Lou is so appreciative of our community and supporters who were in attendance to help us leave ALS better than we found it!
Together, we can make a difference while honoring Lou Gehrig’s legacy. Here are ways you can help!
