During a heartfelt ceremony held at Lou Gehrig’s alma mater on Sunday, April 6, at Columbia University, the Live Like Lou Foundation presented Beth Grossman and her daughters, Ellie, Lily, and Becky, with a Quality-of-Life Grant.

Columbia baseball player Cole Fellows joins Live Like Lou staff and board members to present Beth Grossman and her daughters with a.

Beth was diagnosed with familial ALS in 2024 and receives care at the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center at Columbia University. The grant will go towards making Beth’s home more accessible, helping to improve her quality of life.

“It would mean having a space designed for her, rather than a space she is forced to try and make work,” said her daughter Ellie.

These bathroom renovations will give Beth the independence and dignity she deserves by providing a space designed specifically for her needs and allowing her to look in the mirror while washing her face.

This grant was made possible through the generosity of donors and in honor of Columbia outfielder Cole Fellows, named Captain of the 2025 Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team. This honor recognizes college baseball players who demonstrate the spirit and legacy of Lou Gehrig through exceptional character, leadership, and commitment to community service.

Live Like Lou partnered with Lou Gehrig's fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, to launch the Lou Gehrig College Community Impact Team last year, which recognizes collegiate baseball players' excellence on and off the field. Columbia outfielder Cole Fellows was honored as the 2025 Captain of the Community Impact Team.

"It's an incredible honor to receive this award. I've been inspired by the service efforts of other student-athletes, and I look forward to making a difference here in New York. As student-athletes, we have a unique platform to support causes bigger than ourselves. Together, we can strike out ALS,” Fellows said.
