Live Like Lou is excited to introduce you to Maycee Wilkie, our Social Media Intern for our annual signature workout, The Lou

"My passion is advocating for ALS, so this internship is the best experience I could ask for to advance my skills in my career,” shared Maycee. “I plan to use this experience as a kickstart to my career in the ALS world by indulging myself in the ALS space and learning as much as I can about those living with ALS and the behind-the-scenes of ensuring those living with ALS are well taken care of."

Maycee's father, Mark, was diagnosed with ALS in 2018 and passed away in 2019. Ever since ALS impacted her family and Maycee served as her dad's caregiver, it's been her mission to learn more and help those affected by ALS.

In this role, she will manage the event's social media page, manage the content calendar, do outreach with gyms and prospective sponsors, and assist with event execution. Live Like Lou is thrilled to have Maycee's passion, experience, and tenacity in promoting Live Like Lou's mission and supporting The Lou’s success.

Maycee is no stranger to our organization. She is an Onward Award recipient, a member of Lou's Crew, and attended our event with the Minnesota Twins for Lou Gehrig Day this summer. Passionate about raising awareness for ALS, Maycee manages her own social media account, ALS Advocacy, and hosts her own signature event during ALS Awareness Month in May, “On Your Mark,” to raise awareness for ALS by encouraging others to walk or move a mile a day.

Maycee is a student at Iowa State University majoring in public relations and event management. She is involved with numerous activities and clubs at Iowa State. In her free time, you can typically find her watching sports, hanging out with family and friends, or playing pickleball.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to showcase my skills and gain new ones but to work towards something bigger than myself,” shared Maycee. “When I was in the midst of caring for my dad when he had ALS, it felt as if I was never going to make it out of the dark tunnel to see the light. Now that I can push towards my goals and dreams, I want to share the light with those struggling in a similar situation, so they don't feel as alone."

Thank you, Maycee, for leaving ALS better than you found it!
