The Lou, Year Two

1.30.2024
ALS Awareness
ALS Community

The Lou, our second annual specialty workout to benefit the Live Like Lou Foundation, was held last weekend and we are blown away by the incredible passion and commitment from gyms across North America who raised $75,619.61!

With hundreds of participants from 73 gyms and more than 1,000 donors, the funds raised fuel our programs this year and help leave ALS better than we found it.

Our friends at Sunshine CrossFit in Bedford Hills, New York, birthplace of The Lou WOD.

Although only its second year, the history of The Lou runs deep. The workout originated from the vision of Sunshine CrossFit owner Deb Austin and was inspired by Rainer Hartmann, a CrossFit Games Athlete, former gym owner, and ALS advocate who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 2022.

Rainer Hartmann, from CrossFit Cincinnati, completes The Lou.

We are so grateful to The Lou’s leadership team, led by Live Like Lou Trustees Fred Reimer and Kylan Morris, along with graphic designer and Sunshine CrossFit member Kelli Szluka. These advocates and champions of ALS awareness have been inspired by their own personal connections to the ALS community.

Congratulations and thank you to each participant and gym member who signed up, showed up, and completed The Lou.

Special thanks to The Lou sponsors NOBULL, Goat Tape, and FitAid! We are grateful for MeMe Earnest-Stanely from Invictus Physical Therapy & Adaptive Training who provided adaptive program options for the workout along with our supportive partners at WheelWod, who reviewed and provided feedback on the adaptive program..

We’d like to send a special congrats to our top fundraisers (top four gyms; top four individuals):

The Lou was not just an event; it was an incredible display of community spirit. Did you capture a great photo or video during The Lou? Send it our way!
